Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-04-19. This policy applies to the electromagnetism3d.com website and the Electromagnetism 3D simulator ("the Service").

Draft: this page reflects our intended data-handling practices before launch. A final, legally reviewed version will replace it before the Service charges users or is assigned to students. If you have feedback, email privacy@electromagnetism3d.com.

What we collect

From anyone visiting the website: aggregate analytics data (page path, referrer, approximate country, browser) via a privacy-respecting provider. We do not set third-party cookies for tracking.

From teachers with an account: name, email address, the institution you belong to, billing information processed by Stripe, and the scenes you save.

From students on a paid institutional seat: only the identifiers your institution provides via single sign-on (SSO) or LMS launch — typically an email address or opaque user ID. We do not collect grades, behavioral data, or advertising identifiers.

Why we collect it

To run the Service: authenticate you, save your scenes, process payment, and help teachers see that their seats are being used. For nothing else.

Who we share with

Payment processing: Stripe. Email delivery: Resend (or an equivalent). Hosting: Vercel (or an equivalent). Analytics: Plausible or a similar privacy-respecting provider. These subprocessors receive only the data required for their function.

We do not sell personal data. We do not advertise to students. We do not share data with third parties for marketing.

Students under 13 (COPPA)

We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Institutions that provide COPPA-compliant parental consent may enroll students under 13 on an institutional license; in that arrangement the institution acts as the parent's agent under COPPA's "school consent" exception.

FERPA

When the Service is used by a US school or university, it operates as a "school official" under FERPA to the extent student records pass through it. See the Security & FERPA page for our compliance posture and data-processing addendum.

Data retention

Saved scenes are retained while your license is active and for 90 days after expiration. Account metadata is retained for 7 years for tax and accounting reasons. Analytics are retained in aggregate form indefinitely.

Your rights

You can request a copy of your data or its deletion at any time by emailing privacy@electromagnetism3d.com. EU/UK/California residents have additional rights under GDPR and CCPA, which we honor regardless of residency.
